What we put on and into our bodies is really important for optimal health. Obesity and heart failure are the leading causes of health related mortality (death) rates in America and becoming an increasing issue around the world. Many people are becoming aware of this worldwide issue and changing into healthier eating and lifestyle habits. A healthy and conscious lifestyle is essential to living longer and getting the most out of life. If you’re switching over to healthy eating and becoming more conscious about the things you put into your body, you should also be aware of the products that are going onto your body too.
Since ~65% of what we put on our skin gets absorbed it’s critical to make sure we aren’t letting harmful chemicals and substances in. You’d be surprised how many of your favorite or popular brands use harmful products in their formulation. But then try to mask these harmful ingredients by throwing in a few natural/healthy ingredients. It’s deceptive! When I decided to switch to a healthy lifestyle during pursuit of a masters degree in Nutrition and Metabolism, I began taking note of the ingredients present in the products I was using. Studies have shown that certain ingredients are harmful and disease causing, but since the FDA does not regulate skincare, almost any ingredient can be used in product formulation.
Controversial/Harmful Skincare Ingredients
- Artificial fragrances
- PEGs (Polyethylene Glycol)
- Sodium Lauryl/Laureth Sulfate (SLS/SLES)
- Ethanolamines, Mono- Di- Tri- (DEA/MEA/TEA)
The problem with synthetic additives and chemicals is that there are so many conflicting studies about their potential harm. Many research papers strongly suggest that these ingredients can have major health detriments and interfere with optimal health. I was shocked to find so many of these ingredients in the products I was using before I began formulating my own. I challenge you to take a look at your labels and see if you find any ingredients that you can’t pronounce or have no idea what they are. With natural and naturally derived ingredients you don’t have that issue.
We only use organic, natural, and naturally derived ingredients in our products. I research all the ingredients before testing the formulation out because I use these products on myself. So you can rest assured you won’t be getting harmful rubbish in your body, instead you’ll get health and longevity promoting substances. We are always looking for pleasant smelling and feeling ingredients but health is not something we compromise on. We are very transparent with our ingredient list because we believe it’s important for people to know what they are getting and make a conscious decision to continue/discontinue use.
